Marland L. Rivers, 83, of Hampstead, NH, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 in his home. Mr. Rivers was born in Hampstead on August 17, 1920, a son of the late Arnold L. and Dorothy E. (Conley) Rivers and was a resident of Hampstead for most of his life. Mr. Rivers attended Hampstead schools and graduated from Essex Agricultural School in Danvers, MA. He worked at several wood heel shops, designing and shaping wood heels for women's shoes and also worked for Chase Artesian Well Co. and owned his own outfit for several years. He also was employed for Penn Box of Plaistow and was employed as a cross country truck driver for Consolidated Plastics of Hampstead. He more recently was employed for Joe Dunn as a marine contractor. In his spare time he ran his small farm taking care of his animals and vegetable garden. He was also a member of the Hampstead Grange and enjoyed playing with the Hampstead Players as a young man. Mr. Rivers was a member of the Danville Baptist Church in Danville, NH.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Minerva H. (Fuller) Rivers of Hampstead, one son, Darryl A. Rivers of Salem, NH, one daughter, Anita D. Rivers of Salem, MA and her friend Joseph A. Dunn and several cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Eric L. Rivers in 1973 and by his stepmother, Bertha M. Rivers in 1985.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 7th at 10:00am in the Danville Baptist Church, Main St., Danville. The burial will be in the Centre Cemetery in Danville. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 - 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.
