Obituary

Mr. John E. Burgess of Medford died on Monday surrounded by his loving family at the Golden Living Center-Dexter House in Malden. He is the husband of Angela (Price) Burgess with whom he shared more than 47 years of marriage.
Born in Waltham, son of the late John and Eva (Cormier) Burgess he is a graduate of Waltham High School, class of 1958. Soon after graduation he joined the Army and served our country during the Vietnam War era until 1962. He worked in early years as a welder, often on submarines at the former Boston Naval Shipyard. He later continued his education becoming an electronic technician. He loved family gatherings and enjoyed golf, bowling, and most sports. He was an avid sportsman and fan. He particularly liked the Boston Bruins. Mr. Burgess is a former coach with the Medford Pop Warner League. He coached one of the Comet teams. A soft spoken man, he is remembered as a wonderful, loving father. Nothing brought him more satisfaction than seeing his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Angela, he leaves a daughter, Rene Dockery and her husband David of NH, 2 sons, John E. Burgess Jr. and his wife Danae of NC, Christopher Burgess and his wife Kim of NH. He is the loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home 306 Main Street, Medford Friday at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm. Donations may be sent in John’s name to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, Attention: Development Department, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
