Avis Elaine DeVarney, 75 of Fremont died at her residence, Thursday February 16, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born May 20, 1936 in Viroqua, WI and was a daughter of the late Hjalmer and Ruth (Crandall) Peterson. She was raised and educated in the Lacrosse, WI area, and lived most of her life in Fremont. Avis was an outstanding mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Mrs. DeVarney retired from K-Mart of Manchester as a shipping/receiving coordinator after 17 years. She enjoyed making crafts for local fairs, and attending craft shows. She also loved her flower gardens and making floral arrangements. Mrs. DeVarney was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rockingham Lodge #76 of Candia, and was a longtime volunteer with the Raymond Community Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 39 years, Robert L. DeVarney in 1993.
She leaves behind 2 daughters, Nina and Michele DeVarney, both of Fremont, and a son and his wife, Alan and Lynne DeVarney of Deerfield, NH, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a brother, Clair Wenzel of Janesville, WI, a sister Zona Standiford of Janesville, IA, a sister in law, June Jenkenson, a brother in law, Leroy DeVarney as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held Saturday March 3, 2012 at 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry. A springtime interment of her cremated remains will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
