Paul E. Cayer, Jr. age 70, of Brockton died Friday, February 17, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband for 46 years of the late Margaret (Dutile) Cayer. Paul was born and raised in Lowell, a son of the late Paul E. and Deolinda(Machado) Cayer and had been a resident of Brockton since 1978. Paul was a 1960 graduate of Lowell Trade High and an electrician in the construction trade. He had been a member of Local 103 in Boston.During Vietnam, Paul served in the US Navy aboard the USS Miller.
Paul had been a member of the Holbrook Sportsman Club and was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Medical Center Chapel. He had also been a Eucharistic minister at the Chapel, Our Lady of Lourdes Church and several local nursing homes. He also enjoyed summer vacations in Maine and loved time spent with his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his four children, Jeannie Parrish, Joanne Cayer, Paul E. Cayer, III and James Cayer all of Brockton. He was the devoted Papa of eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Brother of MaryAnn Shaffer and Robert Cayer, Sr. both of Ocala, FL, Richard Cayer and his wife Linda of Tyngsboro, MA, Joan Reece of Pelham, NH and the late Gilbert Cayer. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 2-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Burial will be Tuesday at 11am in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Donations in Paul’s name may be made to Hospice of Brockton and Greater Boston, 500 Belmont Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
