Diane A. (Smith) Bowman, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Steward Home Care and Hospice at the home of her son in Taunton on Sunday February 12, 2012. She was 69 years old. She is survived by her 2 children, Meredith Gavin and her husband William of Dudley,MA and James F. Bowman III and his wife Linda of East Taunton. Other survivors include her brother Ellis C. Smith and his wife Betsy of Randolph, her 2 grandchildren, James David Bowman of East Taunton, Grace Diane Elizabeth Gavin of Dudley,MA and several nieces and nephews.
Born on February 2, 1943 in Stoughton,Massachusetts she was the loving daughter to the late Ellis H. and Alice R. (Curtis) Smith. Diane attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a 1960’ graduate of Stoughton High School. She later attended the Katherine Gibbs Business School and received her certificate in Secretarial Administration.
Prior to her retirement in 2002’ Diane was employed for many years by the Town of Stoughton as an Administrative Assistant in the Public Works Department. She was also employed as a Library Assistant at the Stoughton Public Library. She attended the First Congregational Church of Stoughton and was also a member of The Stoughton Historical Society.
Memorial visiting hours will be held on Friday February 24, 2012 from 5 – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. A Funeral service will immediately follow at 8 P.M. The Pastor Rev. Jean Niven Lenk, officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Steward Home Care and Hospice, 275 Martine Street, Fall River, MA 02723 in Diane’s memory, would be appreciated.
