Antonette (Marino) Buscanera, a long-time Somerville resident, died peacefully on Wednesday morning at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center. She was 98.
Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and the late Vinceza (Scaduto) Marino. As an infant she came to the United States and was raised in Boston’s North End. She helped raise her four brothers and also worked as a fancy chocolate dipper at the former Schraffts Candies in Boston. Devoted to her family, she raised her children in Somerville where she lived for 70 years. Later in life she worked as a sales woman at Gilchrist Department Store in Medford. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Antonette was a dear neighbor and friend to many who will always be remembered for her kindness and lady-like manner.
The beloved wife of the late Vincent, she was a devoted mother to Marie Silvestri of Medford and her late husband Gino, Janet Galvin and her husband Dennis of Somerville and the late Vincent R. Buscanera. She was a dear mother-in-law of Carol Buscanera of Haverhill and a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and the late Richard Buscanera. She was also a loving great-grandmother to 20 and loving great-great-grandmother of two. She is predeceased by her brothers: Dominic, Peter, Gus and Anthony Marino.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, February 18 at 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Visiting hours
