Obituary

WEBSTER – Stella H. (Kulbacki) Bishop, 100, of Webster, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in Webster Manor after a short illness. Her second husband, John L. “Roy” Bishop, died in 1984. Her first husband, Joseph Szczypien, died in 1965.

She leaves several nieces and nephews, including her devoted niece and caregiver, Loretta E. Chabot of Webster, Phyllis Gebo and her husband Clement of Newington, CT, and Elaine McLean and her husband Robert of Monson. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen E. Chabot in 1980 and by her brother-in-law Tony M. Chabot in 1995.

She was born in Dudley, the daughter of Joseph and Emily (Podzieski) Kulbacki and lived in Webster most of her life. She graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School and attended Bartlett High School.

Mrs. Bishop was a weaver at Stevens Linen Associates in Dudley for 45 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality, Sacred Heart Society and the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club. She was very skilled in needlework, especially cross stitching, embroidering and crocheting; friends and relatives have been the recipients of her bedspreads, tablecloths, napkins and other homemade treasures. She enjoyed her weekly cribbage games. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.

The funeral will be held Saturday, February 18, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, February 17, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to either St. Joseph Basilica or to St. Joseph School Immediate Needs Fund, both 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
