DARTMOUTH — Rosamond (Merry) Bennett died peacefully at home on February 12, 2012. She was born December 14, 1927 on the Ashley-Merry farm on High Hill Road, the daughter of the late Susan Hathaway (Thorpe) and Carleton Nelson Merry.
A graduate of the Dartmouth High School Class of 1946, she lived all her life in Dartmouth. After graduation she went to work at the Merchants National Bank of New Bedford.
In 1951 Rosamond married Robert Edwin Bennett, who died in 1971. After the death of her husband she went to work in the Dartmouth Town Clerk's Office, a job which she greatly enjoyed.
She had many wonderful life-long friends; she enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, traveling, the beach, animals and all children.
She was predeceased by her brother Galen Merry, her sister Virginia (Merry) Rosinha, and her beloved nephew Gilbert R. Rosinha.
Survivors include her most cherished friend and companion, Stanley Bettencourt of Dartmouth, her daughter Susan (Bennett) Lee and her husband John of Harvard, MA., her great-nephews Eli and Eric Rosinha of Dartmouth, her great-niece Elizabeth (Rosinha) Hamir and her husband Akraad of MN, their mother Joyce (King) Rosinha of Dartmouth and a cousin Eleanor (Paul) Bochman and her husband Harry of CA.
The family would like to thank the wonderful women who cared for her during her illness.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4-6 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford. Her service and burial are private
