Obituary

Charles R. Schofield, 76, of Ledyard, went to his eternal peace on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012.

He was born in Quincy, MA on June 29, 1935 the son of Charles F. and Dorothy (Hunt) Schofield.. After receiving his education, he entered the US Navy where he proudly served for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Radioman. He later was employed as a supervisor at the Groton Post Office for 20 years before retiring.

A life member of the VFW, he served as Quarter Master of the Mystic VFW Post and more recently was an active member of the Preston VFW Post. He was also a member of the Fisher’s Island American Legion, Groton Fleet Reserve and the SubVets.

He met Leonne “Lee” (Landby) while both serving in the Navy in Norfolk and were married on September 11, 1963. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles D. Schofield and Ian Charles Schofield; a brother, David Schofield; grandchildren, Shannon, Taylor, and Nikki, and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18th at 4pm at the Preston VFW, 28 Spicer Rd. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of SECT (www.hospicesect.org), 227 Dunham St, Norwich CT 06360.
