WESTFORD/WAYLAND: Gertrude L. “Gert” (Carroll) Donovan, 90, died peacefully at the D’Youville Senior Care center in Lowell following a period of declining health.
She was born in Boston on September 24, 1921 the daughter of the late James E. Carroll and Mary K. (Riley) Carroll.
She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Donovan, Jr. who died in 2001. She is survived by her devoted and loving children, Mary Louise Sullivan and her husband Patrick M. Sullivan and their daughter Amy M. Sullivan all of Rockville, MD; Peter F. Donovan and his wife Louise Donovan and their children Drew R. Donovan, Carley A. Donovan and Jessica L. Donovan all of Westwood and Karen M. D’Agostino and her husband Wayne D’Agostino and their children Lauren E. D’Agostino and Nicholas J. D’Agostino all of Westford. Sister of John P. Carroll and his wife Patricia Carroll of Ware. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gertrude has been a resident in Westford for several years and resided in Wayland for over 42 years. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy of Boston with the Class of 1939 and from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. She loved to read, was a great cook and enjoyed traveling and gardening. Her family was the center of her life and she will be greatly missed by them and many friends.
Visitations will be held on Sunday. Feb. 12, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland,
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann’s Church, 124 Cochituate Rd (Rte 27), Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Donovan family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in Gertrude’s memory may be sent to D’Youville Senior Care Center, D’Youville Foundation, 981 Varnum Ave, Lowell, MA 01852 and would be appreciated.
