Veda Gates Moorman, 82, of Tifton died Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Salem Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Ring and Rev. Ronnie McCaskill will officiate with burial to follow in Salem Memorial Gardens. Zane Moorman, Josh Roberts, Larry Gates, Tommy Carter, Gary Lupo and Larry Delbridge II will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Salem Baptist Church, Justin Golden, Leonard Matthews, Hugh Webb, Wright Marchant and Tommy Nash. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Moorman will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Moorman was born on August 12, 1929 in Arcadia, Florida and was the daughter of Willoughby Gates and Alma Partin Gates, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, GW Moorman; and four brothers, C. W. Gates, Allen Gates, Lamar Gates and Gerald Gates. She was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the Excelsior Community Club. She had lived in Tifton since the age of eight.
Mrs. Moorman is survived by one son, Danny Moorman of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Richard Carter, Becky and Glen Langley and Missy Moorman, all of Tifton; siblings and their spouses, Kathleen Sisa of Bonaire, Almeta Carter of Warwick, Floyd and Ruby Jean Gates of Melbourne, Florida, Carey and Ruth Gates of Albany and Barbara Ann and Larry Delbridge of Albany; sisters-in-law, Imogene Gates of Fort Pierce, Florida, Lois Golden of Omega and Frankie Mae McCaskill of Camilla; grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Andy Ring, Kay and Gary Lupo, Sonya and Felicia Moorman, Josh and Tiffany Roberts, Zalana Cromer, all of Tifton, Staff Sergeant Zane Moorman, Marine of Parris Island, South Carolina and Kim and Sal Abate of Kennesaw; and six great-grandchildren, Carter and Alli Ring, Britney Barfield, Kaylee and Garritt Lupo and Hayden Hatfield and a great grandchild due in June.
