Obituary

Constance “Connie” (Gomes) Cachopa, a 62 year resident of Stoughton, passed away at home on Monday February 6, 2012. She was 87 years old. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel G. Cachopa to whom she was married to for over 57 years. She is survived by her four children Manuel J. Cachopa and his wife Arline of Stoughton, Mary E. McCole and her husband Gary of Easton, Julianne Cachopa of Stoughton, and David Cachopa and his wife Elizabeth of Raynham. Other survivors include her seven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother John Gomes, her sister Maria Gomes and her two grandchildren, John and Jillian Hart.

Born September 27, 1924 in Lowell, MA. She was a daughter to the late Antonio and Julia (Freitas) Gomes. Mrs. Cachopa was raised and educated in Madeira Island, Portugal. Connie was employed as an assembler by Datel Systems in Mansfield for over twenty years. She was a member of the Stoughton VFW Women’s Auxiliary and was also an active and current member of the Portuguese National Club in Stoughton, where she held various offices which included both secretary and treasurer.

Her funeral mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 12pm at the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Stoughton. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary, Stoughton. Note: Visitation with the family will be held prior to the funeral mass from 10:30am – 1130am in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Connie’s memory can be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368 or to the Charity of one’s choice.
