Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy E. (Gunby) Purdy, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of Normand W. Purdy, died at her home on Monday morning, February 6, 2012, following a lengthy illness. She was 75 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 1, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of the late Gretchen E. (Roosen) Gunby. Mrs. Purdy was a very social person, always enjoying time with her many friends. In her spare time, Dorothy loved to travel, especially to Florida and vacationing on the Cape and Provincetown with her beloved husband and children. She was also an avid reader. Above all, Dorothy was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her beloved husband, Normand, she will be greatly missed by her loving children; Brad M. and his wife Yvonne Purdy of Salem, Jennifer L. Purdy and her partner, Thomas J.P. O’Malley of Gloucester and Douglas G. Purdy of Malden, brother and sister-in-law; Warren K. and his wife Nelda Gunby of Pennsylvania, grand-daughter; Kyra Purdy and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Charles E. Gunby.
Her funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was private.
