Obituary

Eleanor (Petty) Lukens, age 99, of Grassy Hill Road, Lyme, died March 25th after a period of declining health.

She was born in Florence, NJ on February 22, 1905 the daughter of Charlotte and John Petty. After graduating from Burlington, NJ High School she received her degree in Child Development from the former Miss Illman's School in Philadelphia, now part of the University of Pennsylvania.

She taught at Miss Syward's School near Philadelphia and St. Mary's Hall in Burlington before and after her marriage. She also served as a substitute teacher in Hartford, CT.

Her husband, Frank Nelson Lukens, was the son of Rev. & Mrs. Frank Lukens, pastor of The presbyterian Church in Burlington for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Lukens owned and operated two summer hotels in Maine from 1947 until Mr. Luken's death in 1970.

Mrs. Lukens is survived by two daughters, Constance White of Portland, OR and Shirley Rouseeau of Lyme and Berkeley, CA; 6 grandshildren and 9 great-grandschildren.

She will be fondly remembered for her cheerful adaptation to the many changes in the world that occurred between 1905 and 2004.

Services will be private for the family. There are no visiting hours.
