METHUEN – Daniel P. Murphy, 82 of Methuen, MA died Thursday evening at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA surrounded by his family.
Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of William A. and Julia A. (Fehily) Murphy. He attended St. Benedicts Grammar School and graduated from St. Clements High School with the Class of 1946. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He attended the 9th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA in 1974.
Daniel was a police detective for the City of Somerville, and later became an MDC officer and retired as a captain with the Massachusetts State Police. A longtime parishioner of St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA where he was a Eucharistic Minister coordinator and was a member of the Association of the Presentation of Mary also in Methuen.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Mary T. (Boudrot) Murphy of Methuen, MA. Children Jean M. MacDonald and her husband Philip of Sudbury, MA, Janice M. (Sevoian) Murphy of Londonderry, NH and formerly of Methuen, MA, Daniel E. Murphy and his wife Donna of Lawrence, MA, Patrice M. Osgood and her husband Brad of Londonderry, NH and Marybeth Cox and her husband Daniel of Bedford, NH.
Two sisters, Katherine Griffin of Derry, NH and Mary Murphy of Quincy, MA.
Thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the St, Vincent de Paul Society at St. Monica’s Church 214 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA 01844. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street Methuen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00a.m. in St. Monica’s Church also in Methuen, MA. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Lawrence, MA.
