P. Robert Mitchell 84, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died Friday February 3, 2012 at Agape Rehabilitation and Hospice Center in Conway, SC following an illness. He was the husband of the late Kathleen M. (Crowe) Mitchell, who died in 2004.
Born in Boston, on June 18, 1927 a son of the late Paul R. & Lorraine (Chiacchia) Mitchell, he was a resident of South Carolina for the past 20 years and was a former longtime resident of Medfield.
Mr. Mitchell was raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, and until his retirement, he worked as a special police officer for the city of Boston.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy.
He enjoyed listening to big band and swing music, being close to the ocean, visits from his family and was a fan of all the New England sports teams, and he was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by a son John Mitchell and his wife Nanci of Franklin, a daughter Diane Schijanow of West Brookfield, a stepson Daniel Butler of Boston, and his grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Robert F. Mitchell and Michael Butler and the brother of the late Lorraine Deagle.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass Wednesday February 8th, at 10AM in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Roslindale.
