NANCY ELIZABETH (MERCER) MCARTHUR, of Hingham, died on Feb. 4th, 2012 at the age of 85. Nancy was married to Charles Campbell McArthur, Ph.D for 47 years and lived in Hingham for 55 years. She attended New England Conservatory where she played the cello in the Conservatory Orchestra. She perfomed special shows for and under the direction of Andre Kaslametz and Ruby Newman Orchestra. At the N.E. Conservatory, Nancy sang in the chorus under Farma DeVaron Cook and Arthur Fiedler. Nancy graduated from Boston University College of Music. She performed with the USO and continued to be an active member. She also belonged to the Red Cross, Mother's Club, Florence Crittendon League, Hingham Theatre for Children, S.S. Theatre, Curtain Call Theatre and was a founding member of the Young at Heart Theatre. Nancy continued her passion for music and and theatre through producing both the Priscilla Beach Theatre and M & M Productions in Plymouth. She was also the first female general manager for Theatre by the Sea in Matunuck, R.I. under the ownership of Tommy Brent. For eighteen years Nancy was the manager for Turtle Lane Playhouse in Newton until her retirement at the age of 80.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Bonnie McArthur; and grandson, Jonathan Campbell Hart, both of Hingham.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 9th at 12 Noon at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel prior to the service from 10 AM to 12 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hingham Firefighter's Association, 339 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043.
Interment in High Street Cemetery, Hingham.
