Mr. Joseph A. Di Martino of Somerville died Thursday in Cambridge Hospital. He is the son of the late Anthony and Angela (Di Iorio) Di Martino. He spent most of his life in Somerville and is a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1940. He served in the Army During WWII in the Rhineland and in the Battle Of The Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. He continued his education after the service at Wentworth Institute. He was an Electronics Technician, employed by MIT and Draper Laboratories. He is the loving brother of Yolanda Di Girolamo and brother in law of Ralph Di Girolamo of Somerville and Lynnfield. Brother of the late Dominic and Rudolph Di Martino, Mary Giaquinto and Aldeline Consolazio. Loving uncle of Attorney Richard Di Girolamo of Somerville, and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Di Martino was a member and chaplain of several veterans organizations. He was the Commander of D.A.V. Post #27, Past Commander of AMVETS Post #4, Past Commander of Dilboy Post #529 and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #447. In 2011, he was awarded Veteran of the year by the Somerville Allied Veteran’s Council. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD on Tuesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in The church where he was a faithful communicant and served as an usher for more than 30 years, St. Anthony Church, 12 Properzi Way, Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-9 PM. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
