Francis C. “Mac” Baker, 77, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday February 1, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Roy) Baker, to whom he was wed on February 4, 1956.
Born in Taunton, MA on January 8, 1935, he was a dear son of the late John and Marie (Murphy) Baker. He grew up in Taunton and was a 1953 graduate of Taunton High School.
A retired meat buyer, Mr. Baker had worked for Jac Pac Foods in Manchester, NH, and had formerly been employed at the former Ferrara Brothers in Canton and at the former Sweetlife and Fernandes Supermarkets in Norton. Following retirement, he had worked part time at Anderson Motors and Metro Ford.
During the Korean War, Mac faithfully served in the United States Army and on September 30, 1957, was honorably discharged with the rank of PVT-2.
A resident of Norton for over 55 years, Mac was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, and was a life member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks.
Mr. Baker loved gardening and pristinely maintaining the landscape of his yard. When younger he also enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman.
His favorite times spent were those in the presence of his cherished grandchildren, whom he fondly referred to as ”the guys.” Other favorite times spent for Mac included traveling with his “bride” Patricia.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, he is survived by his devoted sons; Timothy Baker and his wife Elizabeth of Norton, Daniel Baker of Norton, Peter Baker and his wife Ruth of Attleboro, and Mark Baker of Norton. The brother of Rita Poirier of Taunton and the late John Baker, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Ryan, Emily, Sam, Kevin and Olivia Baker, as well as many nieces and nephews, and best friends; Ann and Doug Gard, Norm Marshall and Marge Gallant.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday February 6th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St.,(Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday February 5th from 4-7 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
