AUBURN-Rhea M. (St. Onge) Hassett, 94, of Auburn died Wednesday, February 1st in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus. Her husband, John E. Hassett, Sr. died in 2000. She leaves two sons, John E. Hassett of Auburn and Mark J. Hassett of Oxford; two daughters, Suzanne Hassett of Washington, D.C. and Paula K. Hassett of Greenfield; a sister, Hedwig Santo of Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren, Heather, Mark and Lindsay. A brother, Alfred “Bob” St. Onge predeceased her.
Rhea was born in Worcester and was the daughter of Alfred and Celestine (Dube) St. Onge. She worked at Guaranty Bank in the mortgage department for many years. Mrs. Hassett was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and it’s League of Catholic Women. She was a Cub Scout den mother and was on the Auburn Fourth of July committee. During World War II, Rhea volunteered with the American Red Cross.
The funeral is Friday, February 3rd with a Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester is directing arrangements.
