John B. Hanna, a life-long resident of Methuen died at the age of 83 on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. He graduated from the Boston School for the Deaf in 1946. He played softball for 10 years at the Boston Club and was a huge Red Sox Fan. John worked for many years at the Shawsheen Mills as a furniture upholsterer in Andover. He loved his morning cup of coffee, doing crossword puzzles, watching racing and enjoyed pork pies from the local bakery.
John was a kind and gentle soul who led a very simple life. He is survived by his loving brother Hugh Hanna and his wife Catherine of North Grafton. John is predeceased by his loving sisters Theresa M. Bonneau, Patricia Powell and Rita Lafrenier.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 with a simple service on Friday at 9 o’clock at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA 01844
In lieu of flowers the family has requested a memorial donation be made to Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, Inc., 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg. 5, Lawrence, MA 01843.
