REDINGTON BEACH, FL - Richard B. "Dick" Hayes, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was born on August 5,1929 in Lowell,MA. The son of the late Timothy and Rita (Collins) Hayes. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. (Beaumont) Hayes. Richard was raised in Lowell and moved to Tewksbury in 1957. He graduated from Keith Academy in 1947, Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1951. Richard also served in the US Navy as a Seabee during the Korean War. He then went on and continued his education at the Lowell Technology Institute, now known as UMASS Lowell and graduated in 1961. He was a registered professional engineer. Richard was transferred to Fort Lauderdale, FL and moved to Boca Raton, FL in 1980. He retired from the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers in 1990 and moved to Redington Beach, FL. Richard then became a consultant for Camp, Dresser, and McGee (CDM) in their Clearwater Office until 2002. Richard enjoyed time with his family and playing softball with the Kids&Kubs the world renowned "Over age 75 softball league from St. Petersburg, FL from 2004-2012.
He is survived by five children. Mary Conway and her husband Paul of Needham, MA., Timothy Hayes of Delray Beach, FL., Anne Whitaker and her husband Jeffrey of Boca Raton, FL., Jane Milanes and her husband Jose of Danvers, MA., Elaine Oliver and her husband Joseph of Delray Beach, FL. Five grandchildren, Daniel and Brendan Conway of Needham, MA., Jeffrey Whitaker of Boca Raton, FL., and Joseph and Molly Milanes of Danvers, MA. A sister and brother-in-law Teresa Hogan and her husband Thomas of Lowell, MA. Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Brother of the late Maryclare Gilbride, Rev.Edwin J. Hayes O.M.I, and Robert C. Hayes.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, February 4, in St. William Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Naval Honors, followed at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell. Memorial donations to The Oblates of Mary Immaculate Novitiate, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876, or Suncoast Hospice House "Woodside", 6770 102nd Ave., N. Pinellas Park, FL 33782, will be appreciated.
