New Bedford – Maria Gloria Tavares, age 90 years, died Friday, January 27, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ernesto P. Tavares. Mrs. Tavares was the beloved mother of Ernesto F. Tavares of New Bedford, Eduardo M. Tavares, husband of Maria F. of Dartmouth and Olivia Frias, wife of Joao of New Bedford, loved grandmother of Steven Frias, Lisa English, Nick Tavares and Sonya Tavares. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Maria Torres and Olivia Sabino.
Mrs. Tavares was a daughter of Francisco and Maria Victorino (doCouto) Tavares, she was born in St. Michael, Azores and has lived in the New Bedford most of her life. Mrs. Tavares worked at Cliftex Mfg. as a floor worker.
Mrs. Tavares’ funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
