P. Michael Carney, 48, of North Andover, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was the loving husband of Kimberly (Powers) Carney, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly on Feb. 20, 1963, he was the son of Rosemary (Oskar) Carney of Middleton and the late John F. Carney. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1981. Mike served honorably in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Gulf War.
For the last four years, he has been employed as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Hampton, NH.
An avid golfer, Mike was a Notre Dame and Boston sports fan. He was thrilled to recently win his 2011 Fantasy Football League. He enjoyed music, and was a fan of Pearl Jam, the Grateful Dead, and the Black Crowes. His curious nature gave him a true love of the universe; he was fascinated by the stars, nature, and weather.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three children, Katelyn Carney of Haverhill and her fiancé Christopher Derby, Kourtney Carney of North Andover and her boyfriend Daniel Murphy, Jr., and Patrick Carney of North Andover, five sisters, Maureen Cullen of Newburyport, Christine Fisler of Newbury, Rosemary Marella of Newburyport, Tara Runnals of Danvers, and Kathleen Bartol of Newburyport, a brother John Carney of Salisbury, his mother-in-law Lorraine Powers of Middleton, and a loving extended family of many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
