GLOUCESTER: Dorothy E. (Height) Stanley, 88, formerly of Magnolia Avenue, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in the Golden Living Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Herman Lane and Irven Stanley.
Born in Gloucester on June 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Alice (Height) Fiers. A lifelong resident, she had attended Gloucester public schools, including the Blynman Schoolhouse in Magnolia.
Dot was employed for thirty-seven years at Gorton’s of Gloucester, until her retirement in 1998. She had also worked as a housekeeper for several families in Magnolia and Manchester.
She was a member of the Union Congregational Church and also had a keen interest in the Magnolia Historical Society. An avid collector, she enjoyed acquiring dolls and plates. In addition, she also enjoyed the hobby of knitting.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Donna (Curcuru) Lane; four grandchildren, David A., Jr., husband of Trisha Lane, David J., husband of Cheyenne Lane, Johnathan M., husband of Erika Lane, Susan M. Lane, longtime companion of Gary Lane; a granddaughter-in-law, Sandra Ainslie; former granddaughter-in-law, Lydia Buck; sixteen great-grandchildren, Brandon, husband of Hillary Lewis, Joshua, husband of Jennisa Lane, David J. Lane, James Ainslie, Samantha Lane, Owen Lane, Meghan Murphy, Drew, Alexah and Jenna Lane, Trevor Garlick, Tabitha, Hunter and Skyler McKay, and Amarryah and Kayla Lane; a great-great-grandson, Blake Lewis; and her longtime friend and caretaker, Janet Rattray. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Robert Lee Lane.
Her funeral service will be held at the Magnolia Cemetery on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Magnolia Historical Society, P. O. Box 5551, Magnolia, MA 01930 or the charity of one’s choice.
