Carver – Barbara E. (Sproules) Ball 78, died Tuesday January 24 after a period of failing health. She was “The Bride” for 57 years to Robert K. Ball.
Born in Boston and raised in Randolph she was the daughter of the late William and Felicia (Szubzda) Sproules and a graduate of Stetson High School in Randolph.
Before her retirement Barbara had worked many years as a telephone operator in Randolph, as a secretary at Brophy & Phillips and later for AAA.
She was a resident of Whitman, where she raised her family for over 16 years, Barbara then moved to Hyannis where she enjoyed 16 years before finally settling in Carver 12 years ago.
She enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, and her many trips to Foxwoods, but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
In addition to her husband Bob she is survived by her loving children, Michael Ball and his wife Linda of Middleboro, Maureen Vlaco and her husband John of Fairhaven, and Pam Long of Plymouth, her brother Richard Sproules of Whitman, and her sister Joyce Contrucci and her husband Joseph of Avon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom she adored, Joseph Forte and Christopher and John Ball and her great granddaughter Sophia Rose Ball, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William Sproules.
Her services will be held Saturday January 28 at 10 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM in St. John’s Church, East Bridgewater. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting hours will be held Friday January 27 from 3-7 PM.
