Sandra J. ‘Sandy’ (Hughes) Howland, 72, of 4 Pinewood Drive, passed away Friday, January 20,2012 surrounded by her family after a long battle with diabetes.
She was the wife of the late David R. Howland who died in 2006.
Sandy leaves behind her daughter, Kim J. Petrunia of Webster; a son, Robert E. Howland and his wife Charlene of Putnam, Ct.; one sister, Deborah Hughes-Johnson and her husband Scott of Auburn. Sandy also leaves two grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Allie and Justin Howland and many grand-dogs who brought her great joy to her life. She also leaves her beloved nieces and nephews, Tammy, Cote, Kaylee, and Seth Johnson; Rick Luther, Valerie Morgan, Mariah Lopshire, Sarah Luther and many loving great nieces and nephews. Sandy also leaves a sister-in-law Carol Luther and her husband Robert, a brother-in-law John Howland and his wife Donna, all were very special to her.
Sandy was born in Worcester the daughter of A. Earl and Vesta (Allen) Hughes and lived in Webster all of her life.
She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1957 with honors, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also attended the New England School of Accounting.
She worked for 38 years as an office manager for Antonelli Construction in Worcester before retiring.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford, and a past member of the United Church of Christ, Federated in Webster where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She also worked as a volunteer in the church kitchen organizing dinners for local organizations.
Sandy was a member of the Emblem Club of Webster for many years and a past President, and also was a Rainbow Girl. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching television and relaxing in the sun at Cape Cod.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Calling Hours for Sandy on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6 to 9 PM in The Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., Webster.
A Memorial Service for Sandy will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10 AM at the United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church St. (corner of Main St.), Webster.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Lakeside Cemetery.
