Obituary

Elizabeth V. (Mattox) daSilva, 81, of New Bedford died January 16, 2012 at home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Zacharias C. daSilva, Jr.
Born and raised in New York City, the daughter of the late James and Susan (Allen) Mattox, she lived in Brooklyn most of her life before moving to New Bedford in 2010.
Mrs. daSilva was formerly employed as a librarian for the Brooklyn Public Library System at several branches before retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the National Association of University Women, Brooklyn Branch of The National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., Brooklyn Branch NAACP Youth Council, The Little Theatre Group, and Bridge Street AME Headstart Program Board of Directors. She enjoyed sewing and reading.
Survivors include her daughter, Janine daSilva and her companion Ira Joseph of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Mary L. Hayman; her brother-in-law, Joseph R. Hayman; her best friend, Fannie Porter; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends in the New York City area.
She was the mother of the late Z. Caetano daSilva, III and the grandmother of the late Thomas D. Joseph.
Visiting hours Sunday, January 22nd from 2-4 PM followed by her Funeral Service at 4 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
