Frederick G. "Smitty" Smith, 88, of Brockton, died Jan. 17. Fred was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Choate) Smith. Loving father of Nancy P. Sullivan of Kingston, Cathy A. Abbruzzese of Orange, Steven F. Smith of Rochester, Patricia A. Gallagher of Brockton, and Cynthia J. Long of Lakeville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Fred was born and raised in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School. He was a self-employed general carpenter. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a life member and Past Commander of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Cooties.
Visiting hours from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Rt. 106, Kingston, on Sunday January 22 from 2-6:00 PM. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday January 23 at 9:30 AM and proceed at 10:15 AM to the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne for a Graveside Service at 11:15 AM.
