Howard, Frederick (Fred) Lincoln, Green Harbor, at the age of 88, died on Monday, January 16, at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home in Buzzards Bay. He was the husband of Rose (Evangilista) Parsons-Howard and the late Marjorie (Hanson) Howard. Born in Brockton, Fred was the son of Lawrence Foster Howard and Freda Louise (Kempf) Howard. A native of Brockton and Easton, Mr. Howard was employed by Simpson Spring, a family owned business at the time. He was a union truck driver for 39 years and a member of the Teamsters Union for 31 of those years. Fred moved to Green Harbor in 1986. Fred was a long-standing member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Easton where he served on the church council for 17 years and where he also enjoyed the Sunday morning Adult Forums and the 60+ Senior Group. In his retirement, Fred was very active at the Marshfield Senior Center. He was the President of The Council on Aging in Marshfield when the senior center opened in 2003, and then was a member of the board until his death. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 62 years. Fred transported his wife Rose’s “Red Hatters” to many of their functions, and he supported the Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of his late wife Marjorie. He enjoyed gardening, and prided himself in supplying his friends with fresh tomatoes from his garden. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by a nephew Lawrence F. Howard III and his wife Maria of Bridgewater, his ‘adopted’ daughter Elaine Ojala of Taunton, and three step children: Kenneth Parsons and his wife Elaine of Derry, NH; Richard Parsons and his wife Brenda of Wareham; and Andrea (Parsons) Costello and her husband Robert of Swampscott. He was “Grandpa Fred” to Joshua, Leanna and Daniel Parsons of Wareham; MarcAllyn and Jeffery Libeskind of Swampscott; and Mathew Parsons of Derry, NH. He was proud to be “Great-grandpa Fred” to Emmett Parsons. Fred is also survived by four cousins: Richard Howard of West Bridgewater, Walter Howard of Natick, Frederick Howard of MI, and Richard Howard of FL. He was preceded in death by his sister Rena Mae (Howard) Patelcius, his brother Lawrence F. Howard, Jr., and his niece Gail Patelcius.
Visiting hours in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield, will be on Friday, January 20, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The Rev. Sharon Hughes will officiate at a service of Christian burial for Fred at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 143 Lincoln Street, North Easton on Saturday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be at the South Easton Cemetery, Rte. 138, South Easton.
