Obituary

Salem: Richard J. Guy age 77 of Salem, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Beverly, following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Isidore and Merilda (Pelletier) Guy. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in Africa with the U.S. Air Force. Following his tour of duty, Dick returned to Salem and for the next fourteen years was a senior customer engineer for IBM in the office products division. He left IBM to become the purchasing manager for the City of Salem from 1970 to 1974. In 1975 he took a hiatus from purchasing to become executive director of the northeast region of the American Heart Association, a position he held for 2 years. From 1977 through 1996 he was purchasing manager for EG&G Wakefield Engineering.

Dick, was a well known Salem personality who loved the Salem scene. He enjoyed sports, politics and just socializing with his large family and many friends.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane G. Morrison and her husband John of Salem, 2 sons, Scott R. Guy of Beverly, and David G. Guy of Marblehead, a granddaughter Amanda L. Guy, and many nieces and nephews. The last of eighteen siblings, he was predeceased by his brothers, George, Joseph “Bill”, Roland, Eugene “Bucky” & Paul, and his sisters, Lucienne Fraser, Lillian Tessier, Rose Blais, Florence Cefalo, Cecile Beck, Irene Thompson, Gertrude Driscoll, and the infants, Loretta, Gerard, Robert, Leo and Eugene Guy. He was also predeceased by his former wife, Judith Walker.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, January 20, 2012 in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 226 North St., Salem at 11:30 a.m. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life at the Salem Moose Family Center on the corner of Walnut & Grove Streets. from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA. 02472.
