Lou Emma Mixon, 92, of Ocilla, Georgia died Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with the Rev. Ronny Griner and the Rev. David Barton officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinetta Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Mixon was born November 19, 1919 in Wilkerson County, Georgia to the late Lee and Ora Payne Collins. She lived most of her life in Ocilla. She was a former seamstress for Irwin Manufacturing for 43 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening, cooking, quilting, and sewing for her family and friends. Mrs. Mixon was a member of Pinetta Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Mary & Joe Braziel of Irwinville and Shirley & Wilbert Mathis of Tifton; son and daughter-in-law: Johnny & Serena Mixon of Broxton; grandchildren and their spouses: Delaine & Dean Fitzgerald, Anthony & Tammie Whitley, Laura Kay & Raymond Jones, Jr., John & Celeste Gardner, Clarence & Melissa Mixon, and Jesse & Eva Wall; 10 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Leola Thomas of Sandy Springs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Jesse Mixon, Jr., a daughter: Myrtle Whitley, a grandson: Michael Whitley, a great-great-grandson: Hunner Whitley, and two sisters: Ruby Lee Paulk and Dorothy Courson.
