Obituary

David E. Morrill, Sr., 77, of Derry, NH died Thursday January 12, 2012 at his home. Mr. Morrill was born in Derry, NH on April 3, 1934, a son of the late Arthur “Roy” and Irene (Eddy) Morrill. David was raised and educated in Derry and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1953. He served with the US Navy from 1955 to 1959 and was a member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post #9 in Derry and more recently Post #59 in Hillsborough. David retired from the Public Works Department in Derry after many years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Foxwoods Casino with friends.
He is survived by two sons, William Morrill and his wife Donna of Weare, NH, and David E. Morrill, Jr. of Albany, NH, two daughters, Cathleen Petti of Anchorage, AK, and Ruthann Nally of Groveton, NH, seven grandchildren, Jessica, Keith, Sean, Meredith, Michael, McKenzie and Madison, and two great-grandchildren, his brother, Rev. William Morrill of Salem, NH, three sisters, Barbara Whitcraft, Diane LaPlante and Brenda Hastings, all of Derry, one uncle, Robert Eddy of Chester, NH, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Leona Cino and Karen Wittbrodt.
Calling hours were held on Monday January 16, 2012 from 5 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A graveside service with honors was celebrated Tuesday at 10am at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 DW Highway, Boscawen, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005.
