Edgar A. Desilets, 90, of Dulude Ave., Woonsocket, died Wednesday morning at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Rita F. (Tellier) Desilets.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Aldor and Victoria (Chevrette) Desilets. He was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
Mr. Desilets was an Army veteran of WWII. He served as a guard at POW camps in Georgia and at Quonset Point in Rhode Island.
A carpenter by trade, Mr. Desilets was employed by several builders in the area including Bay State Home Construction, Inc. He later worked as the maintenance supervisor at Forte Cashmere Company in Woonsocket before retiring in 1984.
Edgar was a life-member of the Woonsocket Knights of Columbus Council # 113. He was also the treasurer of the Interstate Emergency Communications Team, his CB radio club, and was well-known by his handle, “Pa”, with his late wife Rita being identified as “Ma”. Edgar was also an avid fisherman.
Edgar will be remembered as a devoted husband and father and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Roger Desilets and Paul Desilets, both of Woonsocket, and Richard Desilets of North Smithfield, two daughters, Theresa Deslauriers and Pauline Geraldo, both of Woonsocket. He was the father of the late Robert Desilets and brother of the late Robert and Anthony Desilets, Rita Blais, and Violet Lataurielle. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in All Saints Church, Rathbun St. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
