Salem: Robert J. McCauley age 85 of Salem, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Theresa B. (Levesque) McCauley, with whom he had shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Salem and raised in Peabody, he was the son of the late Peter W. and Margaret (Sampson) McCauley. Following his graduation from Peabody High School, he enlisted in the Army and served stateside during World War II. Following his tour of duty, he worked in the leather tanning industry in the greater Peabody area. In the early 1960’s he began working with the Department of Public Works for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He retired as a highway supervisor in 1990. Mr. McCauley was a devoted husband and family man. A resident of Salem, he was an avid walker, who could be seen regularly on his daily walks around town.
He is survived by 3 sons, Robert P. McCauley and his wife Linda J. Altvater of Medford, David E. McCauley and his wife Maureen of Portsmouth, NH, Brian D. McCauley and his wife Alison Lambert of Biddeford, ME, a brother, Richard McCauley of Atlanta, GA, 2 sisters, Helen McCauley of Danvers and Elizabeth Leavitt of Beverly. He also leaves, 6 grandchildren, Alexander McCauley, Michele & Christopher McCauley, Joshua, Kaylie & Emily McCauley, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and William McCauley.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem at 10:00 A.M.
