LYNN: Joseph H. Shackleton, 90, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maude I. (McCloud) Shackleton who died in 2000.
Born in Grand Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Samuel and Hilda (Osborne) Shackleton. He had emigrated from Nova Scotia to the United States in 1964 and has resided in Lynn for over forty-seven years. He had also served as a tank mechanic in the Canadian Army during World War II.
Joseph was employed as an auto body man both in Canada and for the Lynn Body Shop for many years before his retirement. He was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan, who also loved NASCAR. An avid reader, he enjoyed traveling, especially flying. He was forever charming and witty and will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph G. and Cheryl A. (Thomas) Shackleton of Beverly; two daughters, Gloria A. Larsen and Donna M. Wade both of Malden; five grandchildren, Cassie, Jessie and Nikki Shackleton, Richard Larsen and Kristy King; three great-grandchildren, Haley Barchewski, Gianna King and Amber Silva; a brother, George and his wife, Marjorie Shackleton and three sisters, Amy Lance, Mary Isnor and Helen Smiley all of Nova Scotia and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by an infant son, a brother and three sisters.
His funeral services will be held on Friday in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., W. Peabody at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot St., Beverly from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
