Anthony D. “Tony” Daversa, age 91 of Brockton died peacefully Thursday January 5, 2012 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the adoring husband of the late Irene J. (Baptista) Daversa with whom he shared 65 wonderful years. Tony was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Crescenzo and Inez (Cappiello) Daversa and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He attended Brockton schools and during WWII served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps.
Tony retired from the Brockton School Department as a custodian at Brockton High School and East Junior High. Previously he was a finished carpenter who owned Rainbow Plastics in Brockton. He was an avid fan of all sports and he particularly enjoyed visiting the area horse and dog race tracks. Tony was a longtime member of the Brockton Sons of Italy. He was a very spiritual man and attended daily Mass at Christ the King Church. Most importantly, he treasured time spent with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Tony will be remembered for his gentleness, kindness, generosity and sense of humor and he always loved a party.
He is survived by a daughter Pamela Jones and her husband Robert of Bridgewater and a son David A. Daversa and his wife Elaine of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Tracey Chestnut and her husband Robert of Lakeville, Gina McCarthy and her husband Eric of Whitman, Courtney Jones of Weymouth and Ashley Jones of Providence RI. He leaves five great grandchildren; Anthony and Ava Chestnut, Tyler, William and Alex McCarthy and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was the brother of Mary Butler and Teresa Allegro and her husband Walter and the late Thomas Daversa and Alice Kostka.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday 4-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Tuesday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church at 9 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
