NEW BEDFORD — Charlotte P. Drake, age 88 years, of New Bedford, died Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Anthony) Drake, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon Secretarial School and was a life long resident.
Charlotte was the great granddaughter of Benjamin H. Anthony, founder and publisher of the New Bedford Morning Mercury and the New Bedford Evening Post which later became The Standard-Times.
For many years she worked at New Bedford Optical and then was employed by Rodrigues, Guckin and Tobojka, a CPA firm in New Bedford. Her enjoyment was traveling and caring for her pets.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Edward, Albert and Charles Drake. She is survived by 7 nieces and nephews, 14 grand nieces and nephews and 5 great grand nieces and nephews. Her caregivers were nieces Cynthia Drake Aadland of Rochester, Ma. and Anne Drake Sawyer of Preston, Ct.
Her private arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, Ma.
