Daniel Henry Hammerstad, 54, of Derry, NH, died Friday December 30, 2011, as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Derry. He was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 1, 1957, a son of Arvid and the late Rose (Vogel) Hammerstad. He had been a resident of Derry for the past year, after relocating from South Carolina. Mr. Hammerstad proudly retired from the armed forces in 2000, having served 4 years in the US Army, and 18 years with the US Navy. He was a Cyclotron engineer and was employed for the past 11 years with IBA Molecular Group. Mr. Hammerstad enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and loved to tinker on cars, and anything mechanical.
In addition to his father Arvid "Bud" Hammerstad of Tecate, Mexico, he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Diane Maurais of Derry, NH; 3 sons, Dustin Hammerstad of Jacksonville, FL, Derek Hammerstad of Groton, CT, Darren Hammerstad of Jacksonville, FL; 3 sisters, Ellen Hammerstad-Larue of CA, Denise Hammerstad of Tecate, Mexico, Lisa Hammerstad of Tecate, Mexico, and his brother, Michael Hammerstad of CA.
A Memorial Reception was held on Sunday January 8, 2012, from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. The burial of his cremated remains with honors will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL at a later date.
