Obituary

Colonel Rudolph G. “Rudy” DiLuzio, 75 of Stoneham, died Friday after a long illness in the Methodist Health Care, San Antonio, TX.

Born and raised in Medford, he lived in Stoneham for many years. The son of the late Antonetta (Valentino) and Anthony DiLuzio, Rudy graduated from Medford High School and attend Chauncy Hall Engineering Preparatory School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts College in 1959, majoring in Economics and Business Administration. He completed graduate courses in data processing and principles and applications at Northeastern University. He also completed Air Command and Staff College and Air War College through the associate seminar program.
Rudy was commissioned as second lieutenant from Tufts College Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He entered active duty on October 23, 1959 and was assigned to the 769th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, Continental Divide Air Force Station, New Mexico as squadron adjutant. In 1961 he was assigned to the 687th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, West Mesa Air Force Station, New Mexico as squadron personnel and administrative officer.
Colonel DiLuzio was released from active duty on October 1962 and joined the reserve program in 1963. He served as personnel officer at Grenier Field, New Hampshire followed by assignments as training officer with the 901st Support Squadron, Hanscom Field, ground safety officer with the 901st Tactical Airlift Group at Hanscom and Westover Air Force Base.
In March 1981 the Colonel completed assignments with the 439th Tactical Airlift Wing Westover Air Base as Chief of Public Affairs. Next assignments was to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel, Headquarters Air Force Reserve, Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia as personnel planning staff officer. In October 1984 he was reassigned to the Air Staff as programming and plans officer with the overseas bases division of Bases and Units, Programs and Evaluation.

He was promoted to Colonel May 1, 1985 and assigned as mobilization augmentee to the Deputy Director for Bases and Units. Colonel DiLuzio retired on October 23, 1989 with 28 years combined active and reserve service.

In his civilian capacity, he served as vice president and corporate officer with EG&G Dymatrend, Boston, a subsidiary of EG&G Inc.









Active in civic affairs in his home town of Stoneham, Rudy served for many years on the Board of Selectmen as well as several other boards and commissions. He was also appointed by the State Senate to the Land-Use Subcommittee of the Legislative Commission to Study the Quality of Life in Massachusetts. He also served as a military aide-de-camp to Governor Francis W. Sargent of Massachusetts.

Rudy leaves his beloved wife Bernadine (Maglio) as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home Friday 4 thru 7.
