Antone “Tony” M. Silvia, age 90 of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly at home on Jan. 3, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Lena (Farias) Silvia and the son of the late Manuel & Mary (Souza) Silva. Prior to retiring, Mr. Silvia worked as a Truck Driver/Laborer for the Town of Somerset Highway Department. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, having served in the European Campaign under the direction of General George Patton. He also served with Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient & Actor Audie Murphy. Mr. Silvia was the recipient of the Purple Heart as a result of a war inflicted injury. He also received 2 Oak Leaf Clusters for his services in the Army
Mr. Silvia was a member of the AMVETS Post 72, American Legion Post 228, & the VFW Post 2045 all of Somerset. He was a volunteer for the Somerset Council on Aging and at Somerset Clifton Nursing & Rehab. Center. Tony was a Car Enthusiast and an Avid New England Sports Fan.
His survivors include his children: Antone “Tony” Silvia (wife Arlene) of Somerset, Ann Marie “Annie” Wentzel (husband Allen “Al”) of Somerset, Paul Silvia (wife Olga) of Naples, FL; his grandchildren: Aaron Silvia (wife Jenn), Amy Cook (husband Andrew), Christopher Wentzel (wife Joanne), Anthony Wentzel (wife Debbie), Mathieu Silvia (wife Sharron), Corey Silvia; great grandchildren: Kayla Silvia, Owen Wentzel, Logan Cook; his Faithful Companion: Florence “Flo” Dionne; his brothers: Manuel Silvia of Somerset, David Silvia of Fall River, Arthur Silvia of Somerset; and many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Noel, & Benny Silvia.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on SATURDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church, South St. at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours FRIDAY 4-8 P.M.
