Gabriel Makram, 90, of 350 Main Street died Saturday, Dec. 31 in UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester after an illness.
His wife of 62 years, Marcelle G. (Haddad) Makram died in 2011. He leaves two sons Brother Philippe Makram with St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Peter Makrum and his wife Ursula of Worcester, three daughters Marie Salama and her husband Amir of Shefford, Canada, Vivian Ward and her husband Michael of Rye, New York and Caroline Makram of Spencer, a brother Farag Makram of Canada, seven grandchildren Marianne, Amira, Marguerite, Miriam, Matthew, Mary Kathryn & Meredith, four great-grandchildren Christopher, Alexandre, Alyssa & Joshua and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son John Makram, a sister Sophie Roumi and a brother Michel Nelson Makram.
Mr. Makram was born in Cairo, Egypt, son of Makram and Matilda (Saidi) Ayoub. He was a printer at the Suez Canal Co. in Egypt for 35 years retiring in 1974. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. He enjoyed stamp collecting and photography.
His Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer. Family and friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mary, Queen of the Rosary Memorial fund, 60 Maple Street, Spencer, MA 01562. J.
