Obituary

John E. “Dutch” Griffin, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Monday, January 2, 2012, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Eastside Holiness Baptist Church with the Rev. Edsel Young and the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Griffin was born August 2, 1925 in Coffee County to the late Fate and Daisy Mae Troupe Griffin. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1948 from Coffee County. Mr. Griffin served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a farmer and a former employee of Industrial Plastics and Modern Fibers where he was named Employee Of The Year. Mr. Griffin was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to church and playing Rummy with his sister.

He is survived by his children, Don (Betty) Griffin of Ben Hill County, Gerelle (Jackie) Owens of Fitzgerald and Teressa (Dobie) McDuffie of Irwin County; grandchildren, Cathy Nesbitt Harvey, Mike Nesbitt and Wayne (April) McDuffie; numerous great grandchildren; brother and sisters, Olin (Carol) Griffin of Jacksonville, FL, Lottie Mae Royal of Wray and Olethia Luke of Warner Robins as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Juanita Tarrant Griffin.
