Winthrop T. Gegenheimer, 95

Dateline: Norton, MA

Winthrop T. Gegenheimer, 95, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away on Monday January 2, 2012 at the Milford Care and Rehabilitation Center in Milford. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (Reimer) Gegenheimer who died on March 1, 2011.
Born in Norton, MA on November 18, 1916, he was a son of the late Carl E., Sr. and Harriet K. (Gwilliams) Gegenheimer.
He grew up in Norton and Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield schools and was a 1936 graduate of Mansfield High School. Mr. Gegenheimer and his late wife were married on December 22, 1945.
A United States Army veteran, he proudly served his country during both WWII and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class.
A Norton resident for the past 59 years, Mr. Gegenheimer was a retired letter carrier, having worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Mansfield, for over 20 years prior to retiring.
Winthrop was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and was a member and past commander of the DAV Chapter in Mansfield. He enjoyed watching television and when younger was an avid fisherman and chess player.
He is survived by his devoted daughter and son in law Marilyn Jordan and her husband Robert Jordan of Mansfield. The brother of Helen Kennedy of Wilmot, New Hampshire and the late Bernard Gegenheimer, Arthur Gegenheimer and Carl Gegenheimer, Jr., he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside funeral services were held on Friday January 6th at the Norton Center Cemetery in Norton.
