Madeline (Macaione) Barravecchia, 87, of Mystic, died Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Pittston, PA on August 19, 1916 the only child to Gioachino and Orsola (DeMarco) Macaione. Raised in Mystic, she attended Mystic Academy and was a 1936 graduate of Fitch Sr. High School.
A former resident of New London, Madeline owned and operated the Pearl Street Package Store in Mystic for over 25 years before her retirement. She moved back to Mystic in 1985.
Throughout her life, she attended St. Patrick Church in Mystic, St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London and more recently, St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton. For many years, she was a member of the Italian Sisterhood. She enjoyed gardening, and will be fondly remembered for her cooking.
Her husband, Salvatore Barravecchia died in 1984. Madeline is survived by her three children, Mary N. Barravecchia and her husband William G. Fish, Jr. of Mystic, Frank P. Barravecchia of Mystic, and Ursula M. Barravecchia and her husband Dr. Lee M. Marks of Richmond, VA; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Marks, Benjamin Marks and Haley Barravecchia.
Madeline’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic on Wednesday from 5-8pm. Her funeral will begin on Thursday at 10:15am from the funeral home to a Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Groton Long Point Rd., Groton. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic.
