Obituary

WORCESTER-Edward R. Humfryes, 86, of Worcester died Friday, December 30th in the Golden Living Center – the Hermitage. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary G. (Brown) Humfryes; a son, Joseph E. Humfryes of Worcester and his daughter, Carrie Horn; four daughters, Susan J. Berger and her husband, Harold of Glenville, NY and their children, Jeffrey and David Berger, Nancy E. Humfryes of Worcester and her son, Jeffrey Morin, Marianne Heigel and her husband, Frederick of Rotterdam, NY and their children, Freddy, Jonathan and Timothy Heigel, Carolyn Leeman and her husband, David of Worcester and their children, Andrew and Kathryn Leeman; three great grandchildren, Hannah, Anton and Ella. A brother, Robert Coakley predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Gertrude (Cartier) Coakley. Mr. Humfryes attended Classical High School and worked at Mass Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Edward also worked as a movie projectionist at several area theatres. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. Mr. Humfryes was a very active member of Christ the King Church; he was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Living Center – The Hermitage for their compassion and care during Edward’s illness.
His memorial service will be held Thursday, January 5th at 10:00 A.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
