Velia (Velluci) Buonaugurio, of Somerville, died peacefully Saturday evening at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. She was 92.
Velia was born and raised in Gaeta, Italy, the daughter of the late Cosmo and Josephine Velluci. She and her husband came to the United States with their young family and settled in Somerville. She worked 25 years with Hostess Bakery in Natick. She was a proud member of the Baker, Confectioner and Tobacco Workers Union. Velia was devoted to her family and was a friend to many families in her East Somerville neighborhood.
The beloved wife of the late Antonio S. Buonaugurio, she was a devoted mother to Tina Buonaugurio of Somerville, Nick Buonaugurio and his wife Domenica of Burlington, Pia Brydge and her husband Donald of Virginia Beach. She was a loving grandmother to Christopher, Craig, Nicole, Anthony and a loving great-grandmother to Dominick, Quinn, Mia and Michael Anthony. She leaves her siblings: Anna, Maria, Frank and Damiano Velluci, all of Italy.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorne Street, Somerville, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 thru 8.
