TEWKSBURY - Jean E. (Wood) Harris, age 85, died peacefully on New Years Eve, with her son and granddaughters at her side, at the Blairhouse of Tewksbury, after a lengthy period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Ernest W. Harris, who died in 1988.
She was born in Cambridge, MA, on April 28, 1926, one of eight children of Medley R. and Jennie (Burton) Wood. She was raised in Cambridge, but moved to an in-law apartment with her son and daughter-in-law's family in Tewksbury in 1985..
She was an active member of the Marsh Corner Community Church in Methuen, and in her earlier years was active sewing and cooking, and was an expert at completing crossword puzzles. Her favorite activity was spending time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Barbara (Brooks) Harris of Tewksbury, four granddaughters, Cheryl Hayes of Haverhill, Kimberly Chamberlain of Woburn, Stephanie Amari of Methuen, and Heather Niclolosi of Haverhill; nine great grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Samuel, Cody, Dominique, Nicholas, Ryan, Reese and Drew; five sisters, Ruth Harris of Woburn, Lillian Eastman of Boylston, Maryanne Lewis of Exeter, NH, Joan Shippie of Billerica, Edith Pellegrino of Plymouth; a brother, Donald Wood of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Medley "Bud" Wood Jr.
Relatives and friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, in the funeral home. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Marsh Corner Community Church, 310 Pelham Street, Methuen, MA 01844, will be appreciated.
