Vanda V. Skane, a resident of Wakefield and formerly of Medford, Melrose and Stoneham, died on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following an extended illness. She was 90 years old.
Vanda was born in Bowmanstown, Pennsylvania on January 21, 1921 to the late Frank and Mania (Martz) Farber. She grew up in Bowmanstown where she attended the public school system and graduated from high school in 1938. She enlisted into the United States Army on July 15, 1943 and served her country proudly and honorably during World War II. She was discharged on October 9, 1945 with the rank of Storekeeper First Class. Vanda worked as a ward secretary at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford for several years and in the billing department at Malden Hospital and Winchester Hospital. She was a member of The Most Blessed Sacrament Church Women's Guild.
Vanda is the beloved wife of the late Edward D. Skane. She is the beloved mother of the late Veronica "Ronnie" Marino, Donna Skane and Annmarie Skane.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vanda's Funeral on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose Followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home.
