Obituary


HAVERHILL: Margaret M. “Peggy” (Sullivan) Mooney, 92, died peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Mooney who died in 2005.
Born in Andover on December 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Margaret (McGrath) Sullivan. She had resided in Lawrence and Andover for many years before moving to Haverhill in 1989. She attended Lawrence public schools and was married on February 4, 1940 in St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence.
Active in the Andover Elks Club, she was a past-president of the Ladies Elks. She and her husband also enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Elks. Peggy was an accomplished seamstress, who loved to make clothing for her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid knitter and loved to cook and bake.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice J. Chamberlin of Haverhill; her son and daughter-in-law, Walter F. and Bea Mooney of Haverhill; seven grandchildren, Kevin Mooney of Kinston, NH, Bryan Mooney of TN, Patricia and her husband, Scott Heffernan of Methuen, Amy and her husband, Scott Dumas of Merrimac, Patrick Chamberlin of Germany and Alison Price of Stratham, NH and Michael Mooney of Haverhill; eleven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Brianna, Kaci, Alex, Devon, Tucker, Shannon, Cameron, Drew, Ian and Ella. She was also predeceased by a brother, Walter Sullivan.
Her funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, 6 Baxter St. Quincy, MA 02169-6900 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Arrangements are under the direction of the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill.
